Human trafficking is something we would like to believe no longer exists but the sad fact, is that it is prevalent all around us. It could be the girl on the train you are travelling on, or the boy across the aisle on the plane. Would you be able to recognise the warning flags that someone is a victim of trafficking? Would you know what to do if you did spot something amiss?
It is a heart wrenching fact that these victims are very often hidden in plain sight. Does that sound strange? Victims often need to be moved from place to place. So, they will travel with adults that pose as their carers or parents. However, the adults are chaperones, to ensure their commodity does not do anything to raise awareness of their plight. Yes, they are often men, but surprisingly women are involved too. They are employed to act as ‘mother’ figures because they arouse less suspicion. So, as the victims travel, they are surrounded by people going about the daily routines, desperate for someone to notice them, but more often than not, they pass by undetected and unnoticed.
Does this bother you? Good! Let’s do something about it. O.U.R provides training on their website to help people recognise the signs of trafficking. It is completely FREE! Click the link at the top of the page to register and let’s all do our part to help those who cannot help themselves.
Blessings to you and yours,
